Name: Tom Craik
How long have you been running with PACE? How long have you been a leader with PACE? Been a leader for three years and running with pace for about six. I always enjoyed coming up from the coast to visit the PACE community and race in the Okanagan.
What are some of your hobbies outside of running? Reading, taking kids into the outdoors, skiing of any kind, traveling, mountain biking, but mostly being with my daughters.
Describe PACE or what it means to you in 1-2 sentences When I think of PACE I am reminded of the theme song from the TV show cheers. It’s a place where everybody knows your name and the troubles are all the same. People have chosen to be there and their heart shines in an open environment like PACE. It’s a place of deep care with common passions for running, nature, and kindness.
What is your go-to fuel on long runs? Hammer Perpetuem is my functional fuel but certainly not my favourite. I really enjoy real food out there on the trail. A wrap with ham, havarti, and avocado takes the cake for sure. The cake would be okay too.
Funny running, racing or training moment: I laugh every time I run and sometimes it’s disgusting and sometimes emotional. Sometimes it’s deep secrets and anything goes after three hours. People really become raw after a few hours together in nature under duress.
Number one tip for beginners: Smile always and smile from your heart. Believing you feel amazing is the key to actually being amazing.
