VIRTUAL VERTICAL RACE - March 2023
PACE HIGH5 was an event that we originally introduced during the pandemic to help runners stay motivated and connected during "virtual times." As it turned out, it became something very special to us. The amazing community spirt, the milestones reached and the motivation everyone spread was so positive that we have decided to make it part of our series.
We have moved PH5 to the month of March, however we think the most exciting change that we have made to PACE High 5 is a NEW MULTI SPORT option that is can be done on snowshoes, backcountry skis, nordic skis bikes or running. Participants can also combine any of these disciplines to earn their elevation. You get to build 5,000m the way you want. Vert is vert. The goal is to hit 5,000m in 7 consecutive days or less.
We wanted to bring PH5 back to ensure folks have something fun, yet challening to keep them motivated during the winter. We also wanted to choose a month that would have huge pay off's for the upcoming race and/or mountain adventure season. Taking 7 days to complete this challenge means committing to just over 700m per day or paricipants can shorten the duration and increase the daily vertical.
Participants can also use PACE HIGH 5, as part of the Quadzilla challenge in 2023.

About
PACE HIGH-5 challenges participants to achieve an ascent of a minimum of 5,000m elevation gain over a maximum of 7 consecutive days using one or a combination of the following multi sport options: running, back-country skiing, nordic skiing cycling and/or snowshoeing.
The race will be open for the month of March and participants must complete their race over consecutive or back-to-back days. If you miss a day, you must start over. You can take less than the maximum amount of days allowed to complete the challenge, however not more. We will mail out race swag before march 1st and announce the prize winners after April 1st.

Fundraising
in 2012 we adapted this motto: "Running feels good. Giving back feels good. Doing both feels GREAT!" and we have been giving back to charities and trail building associations ever since. Each race in our series donates a portion of the entry fees to local charity, as well we host 2-3 runs per year which focus 100% of the fundraising on charity and brings people together in a special way to share adventure and the passion to make a difference. To day, PACE Trail Runs has helped raise over $84,600.
PACE High Five support the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). CMHA facilitates access to the resources people require to maintain and improve mental health and community integration, build resilience, and support recovery from mental illness. As runners, we know how important it is to connect with nature, get outside and blaze the trails to help support our own mental health. By participating in PACE High Five, participants have the opportunity to celebrate the gift of running and give back to those in need.
$25 of your race entry goes to supporting Georgia's Wish / The Canadian Mental Health Association. Runners have the option to raise additional funds and go after the prize for "top fundraiser". To do so, simply donate directly through Georgia's Wish and send us a copy of your receipt.

Virtual Tracking
Tracking: Everyone will need to use Strava for this Virtual Run. If you do not yet have a Strava account, it is very easy to set one up.
PACE HIGH 5 Strava Group: JOIN NOW!
LOGGING YOUR DATA
We encourage you to have your watch or tracking devices set on “lock” to ensure that you don’t accidentally stop recording your data and not notice. It would be devastating to have to redo even 200m of your journey because your device accidentally stopped recording.
Please do not pause your activity once you start and treat each activity like a regular race. You don’t get to stop your watch in the middle of a race at the aid station, so the same rules apply here.
Start your device at the start. Stop it at the finish. Submit as is. We want this challenge to be fair for everyone and trust in the honesty of our beautiful running community. Thank you.
Strava has an option to “adjust vertical”. If you choose to use this option, it will make your vertical more accurate, as Strava takes the data from all the uploads over time to improve accuracy.
STEPS TO UPLOAD A FILE ON ULTRASIGNUP
If you input data incorrectly at any point of your race, you can simply delete the entry and re-enter the correct data.
We encourage you to upload your files as you go, as it will make it easier for you to keep track, but also for us to verify. If too many people wait until the end of the month, it will take us longer to process and delay us posting the final results.
If your data isn’t clear or we are unable to verify it, it will not count. Please double check your data before uploading it. Thank you.
Ultra Signup will STOP recording any of your data once you hit 7 days. This means that you have to reach 5,000m before you hit the end of the 7th day to earn your finish.
GROUP RECORDING
We also want to speak to those of you who are running PACE HIGH 5 as a group. We understand that watches record data slightly differently and that all members of a group might prefer to all run based on the data of one person's watch. We will allow this, as we wholeheartedly trust those of you running in a group will record your results honestly.
That said, each individual must still attach THEIR OWN individual strava, garmin, fitbit etc., and show the route they ran, date, time etc.
Please note that if a group decides to record in this manner and qualifies for a prize - it will be up to the group to decide who gets the prize.
RESULTS
We won't be showing any preliminary results as we go. The main reason for this is because participants have a full month to record their results and We will need to do so

PACE High 5 Race Rules
- You can record vertical via running, snowshoeing, hiking, cycling or skiing.
- Treadmills & smart trainers are okay - you must provide photo & GPS evidence.
- Poles are okay (and encouraged!)
- Please review our prize categories with detail, as there are different ways to qualify.
- Once your file is uploaded to Strava using GPS you must have access to the desktop version and use the “Correct Elevation” function. This normalizes the over-reporting of vertical seen on most Garmins as well as the under-reporting of vert seen on most Suuntos. Don’t worry about this- everyone will get equally screwed.
- You must have your GPS files / treadmill photos and all pertinent info uploaded by March 31st at midnight. We encourage you to send in your final results, as you complete it so there are less files for us to review at the end of the month. Please ensure your data is clear and clean, with nothing fishy about it. We won't be following up on data that isn't properly submitted. Thank you for your cooperation.
- We will announce the winners of each prize category as soon as we have processed the last of the data. This will depend on how much data gets submitted within the last week of October.
