Name: Lucy Tuplin
How long have you been running with PACE? How long have you been a leader with PACE? I started running with PACE in Spring of 2013 and Winter 2022 was my first clinic as a leader.
What are some of your hobbies outside of running? If I’m not running, I might be mountain biking, misery sticks in winter, hiking with our doggos, pretending to garden, or finding any excuse to bake.
Describe PACE or what it means to you in 1-2 sentences It’s four little letters that propel you into the best and most vulnerable parts of yourself. It’s a community where you learn to trust, challenge, respect, and sometimes fall. In the end though, you get farther than you ever thought possible and you do it with incredible people beside you.
What has been your favourite trail or place to run in the whole wide world? One of my first times trail running I explored Pinnacle Lake – it was in this moment I realized that the trails were going to lead me places that would open my eyes to more beauty than I ever imagined.
What is your go-to fuel on long runs? If I can manage real food I will, a squished PB & J sandwich always hits the spot, along with mini ritz pb sandwich crackers (thank you Tara, I am forever grateful for this snack idea). I also rely on trusty Hammer gels for being easy to pack and quick to eat.
Funny running, racing or training moment: My first trail race some of the flagging had been removed, we ended up adding on an extra hill and few kms, I panicked and I cried. It wasn’t funny then, but when I think of it now and how often things can deviate from the expected, it makes me smile, we all get a little off track sometimes.
Number one tip for beginners: At first you might think it’s about what your body can do, but your mind is the driving force. Trust your process and be patient with your own journey, it’s true what they say, comparison is the thief of joy.
Is there anything else you'd like the PACE Community to know about you? I am so happy you’re here! I am here for your low days, scary moments, grumpy spells, doubts, and frustrations. I KNOW you can do it, I believe in you even if you don’t!
