MENTOR: ADVENTURE SAFETY

6/23/2020

In this video Tom breaks down the top 10 essentials to consider while adventuring this summer! Please take 11 minutes to watch this valuable video as it might safe a life or help significantly reduce the risks to you and those you're adventuring with.

The following is information to help you prepare for this weekend's adventure run!

MANDATORY GEAR LIST
We encourage you to bring all the things Tom mentioned in his video for all the PACE and self planned adventures / long runs at all time, however I have modified the mandatory list for our PACE group runs this summer, based on the dynamics of the routes we have chosen and team support.

It's a really good idea to get into the habit of brining extra layers, gloves, toques, food, hydration etc... to the trailhead for all your runs so that you have options to throw in extra items last minute, say if the weather changes abruptly.

1. Minimum 2 litres of fluid.
2. Minimum 500 calories (based on 150-180 calories per hour).
3. Wind/waterproof jacket.
4. First aid kit with tensor bandage, advil, benadryl & blister pack.
5. Emergency blanket.
6. 1-2 buffs.
7. Sunscreen & hat are strongly recommended if it's hot.

If you don't have any of these items and are unable to go out and get them before the run - just let me know so the team can prepare and bring extra items if necessary.  I don't want anyone NOT coming to the run because they don't have some of these things or a pack, for example. We have extras we can lend for this weekend - so just text me: 250-878-1736.

COVID-19 REGULATIONS FOR GROUP RUNS
  • If you are feeling unwell, have been exposed to someone feeling unwell or showing any signs of illness, please don't attend the run.
  • We will break into smaller groups of 6 to 10 with 1-2 leaders per group.
  • Socially distanced running guidelines: 6 feet apart.
  • Participants & team members are required to carry a mask/buff and hand sanitizer in the event a situation does occur where we need to get closer than 2 meters to assist.
  • Please ensure you head off trail 6+ feet if you're going to farmers blow or spit and please cough into your sleeve.
