VIRTUAL STAGE RACE - May 2022
The Rendezvous 135 was an event that we originally introduced during the pandemic to help runners stay motivated and connected during "virtual times." As it turned out, it became something very special to us. The amazing community spirt, the milestones reached and the motivation everyone spread throughout the land, was so positive that we have decided to bring it back again in 2022.
We will be moving R135 to the month of May in 2022. We know that more in-person events will be taking place, so we wanted to schedule R135 in a month that we know will help keep motivation high through the winter months and still compliment those summer events as a great training experience or early season "A" race.
We have also decided to introduce the R70 which will be the R135's sister version, for people looking for a virtual challenge with slightly less time commitment. This is still a great way to part of the PACE community and have the extra motivation to work towards a new goal! Please see the description below for more details.
Runners can also use R135 or R70, as part of the Quadzilla challenge in 2022.

About
The R135 is the original event we created and it challenges runners to run the length of Okanagan Lake or 135k, with a minimum of 5,000m elevation gain over 6 consecutive days.
We are adding the R70 in 2022, which will challenge runners to run 70k, with a minimum of 2,500m over 3 consecutive days.
Both races will be open for the month of May and participants can choose to run any days within the month to complete the challenge, however the days must be consecutive or back to back. If you miss a day, you must start over. You can take less than the maximum days to complete the challenge, however not more.
We will mail out race swag before the challenge, in April and results will be posted the first week of June.

Lake History
Okanagan Lake is located in the southern interior of British Columbia and is the largest lake in the Okanagan Valley. There are three major population centres located along the lake's shores: Vernon at the north end, Kelowna at the midpoint and Penticton at the south end.
Length: 135km
Width: 3-5km
Depth: 232m
There have been many theories as to the derivation of the name of Okanagan lake and one is that it means "rendezvous" as the thread of the river at Lake Osoyoos is where First Nations of B.C. and Washington often gathered for an annual Potlatch. We liked how this tied in some of the local culture and history with the race, as well as how rendezvous means to gather, which is the part of our events that we love the most... bringing people together.
So while we are unable to gather in a traditional sense due to COVID-19, it's our hope that The Rendezvous 135 will bring people together in a new and meaningful virtual way in 2021.

Fundraising
In 2012 we adapted this motto: "Running feels good. Giving back feels good. Doing both feels GREAT!" and we have been giving back to charities and trail building associations ever since.
Rendezvous supports FOSS Society who are dedicated to preserving the environmental integrity of the south slopes of Kelowna by constructing and maintaining public facilities, trails and signs in Myra-Bellevue Provincial Park and OK MTN Provincial Park, while promoting minimal impact recreation. In 2021, The Rendezvous raised
All of the fundraising efforts from Rendezvous will be earmarked for improving the trails in OK Mountain Provincial Park, which is the home of our Wild Horse Traverse 50k. This park is rugged, wild and hard to access, making trail maintenance very difficult. 100% of the proceeds will go into supporting keeping these trails safe, accessible and support the Wild Horse Traverse in future years.
There is a minimum $50 fundraising commitment that each runner must meet to qualify as an official finisher and for prizing. All fundraising efforts are deeply appreciated. The individual who raises the most money will win our grand prize!
PROOF OF FUNDRAISING
1. Runners can donate the amount personally, or host their own fundraising campaign.
2. Please make a one time donation through the 2022 PACE Rendezvous Virtual Event or you can create a "giving group" that will act as your own individual fundraising page.
If you want to set up your own personal Giving Group (or individual fundraising page) under the umbrella of the Campaign, just follow the steps below to start fundraising

Rules
1. Treadmills are okay - you must provide photo & GPS evidence.
2. Poles are okay (and encouraged!)
3. Please review our prize categories with detail, as there are different ways to qualify.
4. Once your file is uploaded to Strava using GPS you must have access to the desktop version and use the “Correct Elevation” function. This normalizes the over-reporting of vertical seen on most Garmins as well as the under-reporting of vert seen on most Suuntos. Don’t worry about this- everyone will get equally screwed.
5. You must have your GPS files / treadmill photos and all pertinent info uploaded by May 30th at midnight. We encourage you to send in your final results, as you complete it so there are less files for us to review at the end of the month. Please ensure your data is clear and clean, with nothing fishy about it. We won't be following up on data that isn't properly submitted. Thank you for your cooperation.
6. We will announce the winners of each prize category as soon as we have processed the last of the data. This will depend on how much data gets submitted within the last week of May.
