Performance Trail Running Clinics

Our run clinics help inspire, motivate and educate our community, through a welcoming & inclusive environment that encourages runners to reach their goals. You'll improve your speed, strength, stamina and endurance and learn more about training, racing, recovery, nutrition and more.

We will have different groups assigned to run leaders that will lead you through different long runs on specific Sundays. Wednesdays offer a variety of speed, strength and stamina workouts that are lead by professional running coach Rene Unser.

Our clinics are more than just a place to run. They are where friendships turn into family and together our community supports one another to reach goals, maximize potential and have fun.

The group meets at different locations every Wednesday and Sunday and participants will have access to the calendar, training plans, online performance centre and private Facebook group one week prior to the start of the clinic.

Up Next...

Our January clinic offers two categories to choose from: 25k or 50k. Each category offers different training plans to follow. These training plans will prepare runners for the PACE High 5 vertical challenge, Nimble Bear 50k/25k, Charity Run & Wildhorse Traverse 52km. Although our clinics will also provide the performance modules to allow you to adapt the tools to your own personal goals. 

Wednesday & Sunday group workouts follow periodized training plans, written by professional running coach, Rene Unser.

Wednesday sessions break the workouts down into 25k & 50k training options, although Rene works very closely with her athletes and adapts based on their needs as the clinic unfolds. Athletes can expect intervals, fartleks, time trials, terrain management, tempo training, vertical challenges and more. 

Sunday workouts focus on building that all important endurance base and will build the 25km training group up to 3.5hr long runs and the 50km training group up to 5hr to 6hr long runs. Most long runs are broken into smaller groups of 5-10 athletes and assigned 1-2 team leaders to guide and support each group. The groups are pre-assigned by Coach R, based on your experience, fitness & skill level and the information provided on your registration form. As your fitness and/or skills progress, you may request to bump up a group.

Athletes can expect the majority of the runs to be adventure / leader-lead focused, although we do schedule some solo runs, vertical challenges and enduros, which are mini race scenarios. 

New for 2023...

We are excited to make the following positive changes for 2023:
  1. Moving our clinic format into 3 clinics per year. This will allow a slightly longer training block which will support more consistency and help  increase overall performance. It also reduces the repeat registration process for our long term athletes who train with us year round. Please note that the clinic prices have remained the same and are prorated based on the duration.
  2. We will no longer be offering new spots in our virtual platform, however we will grandfather the option to register for those athletes who have been training with us virtually since 2020. 
  3. We are bringing back P.A.C.E. road trips and each clinic will offer 1-2 adventure style runs in communities outside of Kelowna. These runs will be full-day adventures and are optional. Solo workouts will be assigned for those who can't join the adventure runs.
  4. More social events on and off the trails.

Wednesday (speed): 6:00pm 
  • ​speed, strength, stamina intervals. 
  • Rene coaches outside the box and uses a variety of unique tactics to help her athletes reach peak performance and have fun.

Sunday (long run): 8:00am >> moving to 7:30am in March)
  • mix of bread & butter, vertical challenges, enduro's, fast finish, progressions, adventure runs and more.
  • some long runs are solo-inspired and instructions will be given to encourage athletes to practice pacing, race strategy and developing their mental strength through a solo long run.
25KM TRAINING PRE-REQUISITES
  • currently running 3x's per week
  • ​minimum 10km or 90min long run base
  • clinic builds long run up to 3.5hrs
  • not a beginner clinic. 
50KM TRAINING PRE-REQUISITES 
  • currently running 3x's per week
  • min 15km or 2hr long run base
  • clinic builds long run up to 5-6hrs
  • not a beginner clinic. 
INCLUDED
  • Wednesday coached speed/strength session. 
  • Sunday long runs. Most runs are leader lead.
  • 1-2 race enduros for athletes to practice race day scenarios, strategies and skills. 
  • Multiple on-line training plans to choose from. 
  • Weekly video with motivational and performance content.
  • Online access to a private athlete performance centre with performance tips & information for clinic participants only. 
  • Variety of socials.
  • 1-2 Adventure runs outside of Kelowna. Road trip!
  • Support and motivation from a professional running coach and P.A.C.E. team. 
REGISTRATION FEE
In-Person Training
$368 + GST (+$25 processing fee on Ultra Signup)
Full refund up to 1 week before the clinic starts.
Once access to the training plans and online performance center have been sent out, participants will be entitled to a $100 refund. 

Virtual Athletes
We will not be accepting any new virtual athletes in 2023.
Any virtual athletes who trained with us in 2020-2022 will have the option to continue and register for $300 + GST. (+$25 processing fee on Ultra Signup)

Meet the Coach

Rene Unser has been coaching athletes for almost 2 decades and works with athletes of all levels, from all over the world. 

Prior to coaching, Rene had a successful career in the fitness industry for over 22yrs and motivating others to reach their goals is something that has always come naturally to her.

Rene has always been active and didn't waste any time jumping into endurance sports. Her first triathlon was the Oliver Half Ironman, first trail running race was a 5 day stage race in Thailand and her first mountain bike event was an 8 day stage race called the BC Bike race. Rene shares a passion for stage racing and is most proud of her 3rd place finish in 2016 & 2nd place finish in 2019 (with her partners) in the Transalpine Run and hopes to return for her 10th time at this legendary event, in 2023.
