I caught up with PACER Marja Fipke after her race yesterday and I hope you'll help me in congratulating her on this awesome achievment!
Q: What made you want to run a half marathon this time of year?
A: The reason why I wanted to do a race in February is because there aren't many races between fall and spring. I signed up to keep me motivated and to have something to work towards. Also I wanted to test myself and see how my fitness level is. And I really liked the metals they gave out as well.
Q What did you do to prepare for this event? Training through the winter months can be tough.
A: To tell you the truth I didn’t really prepare for the race as I should have. My intentions were there but it just didn’t come together. I basically just ran with PACE Wednesdays, Sundays and I did a few 8/9 km runs with my friend.
Q: So how did the race go?
A: The race went actually surprisingly well. I was feeling good throughout the whole race and I didn’t have any issues with my hips, ankles or hamstrings. It’s the first time that I ran a race without any friends and I decided to listen to music instead. I have to say that that really helped me mentally.
Q: What was the best part of your experience?
A: The best experience of the race was feeling good while I was doing it and having confidence in myself and to realize that you can actually do more than you think you can. I think doing all the training with PACE has helped me to be more confident in myself as a runner. Meeting a bunch of new great people and of course finishing the race.
