SARAH MACLEOD RACE REPORT

My race was FUN!!! I had a great time, except for the stomach issues I had in kms 28-40......I then had to battle cramps in my foot, calf, and quad.....had to walk a lot to get electrolytes in and stop the cramping:(

My first half I took quite easy I thought and consciously slowed myself down at least a few times.....my first half was 2:45.......I was feeling good, and expecting to do a negative split, but alas the pit stops really slowed me down......I at least wanted to get in under 6hrs, and I started to feel really good again after 40kms, and picked up the pace.....I was going to be around 5:58 I figured.
With 2 kms to go I caught up with a guy (in a Fedora) that I was running with at the start of the race and he was really feeling dizzy. I offered him food and water but he wouldn't take anything......I passed him, then heard him fall behind me, so I stopped and ran him in the last 2km.....he was super dizzy and stumbling all over the place......I was kinda scared to leave him alone as the race is really quite unsupported and you were really on your own.

So we finished together in 6:12......way slower than I hoped, but I finished feeling really good.
Everyone crossed the line barely able to talk!!! There was some of the fastest runners in the maritimes there, and they killed the run- beating last year's winning time by an hour!!!

My dad was there at the end, which was soo sweet:) He hadn't seen me run since elementary school cross country meets. He was so proud of me, mostly that I could walk normally and still talk at the end:)

I finished 2nd female, as I got passed during one of my "potty" breaks.....she did a 5:53. She was a great lady, and is a very accomplished runner.

This was a great experience, and I'm so happy I finished, and also happy I didn't kill myself- even though I would've liked a better time, I had a lot of fun and am looking forward to the next one!!!! I know I can do better, but really feel like this was a great "stepping stone" for me!

Talk soon, and thanks again for all your help:)
