Was overcast and windy so I was a little concerned about the swim. I was not racing until 9 am so I was hoping it would die down. The wind picked up as soon as I left the house!!
Got myself all set up in transition and went to check out the water. It looked a little choppy but not too bad. I would have to find someone to draft behind. That would be my goal.
We started just after the men. Started off to the right since the second buoy was further to the right then the first. Plus I did not want to get caught up in the chaos. Found someone to draft behind right away and tucked myself in behind her for the remainder of the swim. I have never enjoyed open water swimming more. It was comfortable and easy. Whoever she was I thank her for doing my work. Was roughly sixth coming out of the water. Hopped on the bike and off again. Legs feeling pretty good and needed some fuel. Knox hill was not too bad but I knew I would have to do it a few more times. Saw a few familiar faces which is always motivating. Got to the run and was still feeling pretty strong but legs were heavy. Went slow at first to give myself a chance to adjust. Completed the first lap a little slower than I had hoped so tried to pick it up the second time around. Felt good and strong to the finish. Finished 2 34 and 7 out of 36 in my age category. Felt good had fun and was happy with the result. Could not ask for more.
